Treatment and capture media

Carbon for filtration.
Developed for the target stream.

Filtration and remediation applications require defined media properties, not simply a high-level material name. Target compounds, chemistry, flow, pressure loss, contact time, safety and end-of-life route shape the useful carbon specification.

Routes to evaluate

Potential applications.

  • Water-treatment development
  • Air or gas media research
  • Environmental capture media
  • Carbon-mineral filter blends
  • Contaminated-material trials

Specification controls

What must be defined.

  • Target compound and concentration
  • Stream chemistry and temperature
  • Flow and contact time
  • Particle size and pressure loss
  • Analytical test method
  • Media handling and end-of-life plan
01

Start with the contaminant and process

The target and operating conditions determine which carbon properties are worth evaluating. Generic surface-area or adsorption language is not enough to specify a safe and effective treatment.

02

Physical grade affects the equipment

Fines, attrition, density and particle distribution influence pressure drop, carryover and bed behaviour. These must be considered alongside any laboratory indication of capture.

03

Scale only after relevant testing

Bench and column work should reproduce the intended stream as closely as practical. Results from another carbon or a clean laboratory solution should not be presented as guaranteed field performance.

Clear answers.
No invented claims.

PCS separates what the material is designed to do from what has been demonstrated in the actual application.

Is pyrolysis carbon the same as activated carbon?+

No. Pyrolysis-derived carbon should not be assumed to meet an activated-carbon specification unless the relevant processing and measured properties are confirmed.

Can PCS guarantee contaminant removal?+

No treatment result should be guaranteed without a defined media specification and relevant testing under the intended conditions.

Can minerals be added to the carbon media?+

Yes, where each component has a defined role and the blended media is tested for hydraulic, handling and treatment performance.
